What is SPACE?
Samahang Pilipino Advancing Community Empowerment (SPACE) has been at the forefront of advocating for issues of access to higher education and the development of the community. Celebrating its 10th year in existence, SPACE continues to help students identify their own power for change through providing services that help them develop scholastically and holistically.
Every week, SPACE goes to Belmont and Marshall high schools, and, starting this year, El Camino Community College, to help students realize the importance of higher education, community advocacy, and holistic development.
SPACE encourages the on-campus community to volunteer. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to interact with staff members and students at the high school sites through providing tutoring and other academic services. You will also be able to increase your leadership and communication skills and learn more about the prevalent issues in the community.
Starting Winter Quarter, students will be able to participate in the Staff Support Program. You will have the opportunity attend site multiple times during the quarter and learn more about the SPACE, its goals, and its methodologies.
If you have any questions about SPACE or if you are interested in getting involved, feel free to visit us at our cubicle in room 106 in the Student Activities Center.
