To be completely honest with myself, site lies smackdab in the middle of week’s that always seem hectic. The most intricate planner in the world fails to prevent the fact that there is always so much to do and limited time in which to do it. And so I wake up Wednesday mornings with a sigh—it’s the day everything else must pause while I dedicate an enormous block of time to site. Despite midterms, lack of sleep, waning physical fitness, and lack of time to just be, site comes. And so I uneasily concede that time, hints of reluctance seeping through.

But then site makes it all better. The productive sessions. The breakthroughs. Being able to build and observe community. The looks on the students’ faces as they realize that site is, in fact, a wonderful use of their time. Reassurance that I CAN be effective as a peer advisor. Site is my reminder I need to tell me just exactly why I’m so tired, why I have my struggles, and why I’m in SPACE at all. The huge block of time in the middle of my week is not a waste—in fact, it is, perhaps, the most effective use of my time I could ever ask for.
